Your assignment is to help Leslie and Ricky learn about the importance and interdependence of every organism in an ecosystem.  Of course, Ricky and Leslie are most concerned about the possibility of bats in the attic, however Mr. Dwight wants them to learn the more important lesson of the need to understand the bigger ecological picture of interdependence.This assignment has 2 parts which will assist you in preparing for the final task for this WebQuest. First; your team will use the Internet to conduct reseach and find examples of the various types of bats and the important roles and relationships that play in the environment which you will incorporate into a storyboard or PowerPoint presentation. Second, your team will also participate in a virtual lab on predator/prey relationship.  All of this will help your team with the task for this WebQuest, which is to create an animation, skit, or movie that demonstrates your undersanding of the various types of symbiotic relationships.

PART 1

1. You will be assigned to a group of four team members

2. Two team members  in the group will select two symbiotic relationships each to research  (one team member will choose and create slides on mutualistic and commenselistic relationships between bats and other organisms, the other team member will choose and create slides on parasitic and predator/prey relationships between bats and other organisms) and provide two examples of each type of relationship. The other two team members will research general habitat, diet, and discuss common myths about bats.

3. Your team will use the following links at the bottom of the page to conduct research on the chosen topic.

4. Your team will create a
PowerPoint Presentation that will teach Leslie and Ricky about the important symbiotic relationships that bats have with the organisms in their environment.

PART 2
Your team will split into two groups and check out this virtual lab about predator prey relationships and complete the lab inquiry sheet and reflection question sheet to complete the lab.
PART 3 
The Task!

You will create an animation or skit that represents at least three organisms that are connected by symbiotic relationships (eg. mosquitoes have a parasitic relationship with humans, and humans have a commensalistic relationship with dragonflies, but dragonflies have a predator/prey relationship with mosquito larva) and explain each relationship.  The animation or skit should depict relationships that are self evident. (Viewers should be able to identify the relationships without them being verbally identified by the presenters.) Your team will be evaluated by the rest of the class, so let everyone see you shine! Once you have presented your skit or animation, you should be able to explain how all of this information explains the important and complicated role that all organisms play in healthy ecosystems.
